Cycle routes

Fife has a fantastic range of mountain biking for every ability right across the region, and the Fife cycle routes are detailed below to help you get started!

Each route is complete with all the information you need including local businesses close by who can help you out with equipment, guiding, accommodation and the all important food refuelling! You can view these businesses on the map linked to each route.

Each route can be downloaded to your computer, tablet or smart phone to take with you. You can also download the entire set here.


Balbirnie Park route, Markinch

A short route around the woodland paths of Balbirnie Park with a longer optional extension ride taking you to the Star Moss SSI and some great views over the First of Forth

Crail to Kingsbarns

Low level route along a former railway linking two scenic towns in the East Neuk area of Fife

Devilla Forest route, West Dunfermline

A pleasant and mostly flat ride on forest tracks through Scot’s Pine trees.

Dunnikier Park, Kirkcaldy

Short route with gentle gradient through pleasant woodland around Dunnikier Park. Middleden Mtb trails are just across the road too, with a variety of trails for all abilities.

Fife Coastal Path, Newburgh

A fantastic ride with stunning views above the River Tay, accessing Norman’s Law, one of Fife’s highest hills and the Eastern most peak in the Ochil Fault.

Fife wide routes

Fife has a wide range of cycling and walking routes, from coast to beaches, parks to gardens, and forests to hills.

Glenrothes Circular

A circular route on the outskirts of Glenrothes, linking up many short sections of single track and multi-use trail. Can be split into North & South loops using Bobligen Way cycle path.

Lochore Meadows Country Park

A well surfaced, gently undulating path around Lochore with other purpose built mountain bike trails leaving from the same location (information/ maps available locally).

Pitcairlie Hill, Pitmedden Forest, near Auchtermuchty

An undulating route on forest tracks with spectacular views across Fife, the River Tay, Perthshire and Tayside. A great choice on a clear day.

Tentsmuir Forest, Tayport

A flat forest track that's popular with families. An extensive forest track network and access to Kinshaldy.

Interesting facts

Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve, just north of St Andrews, is one of the few places on the east coast of Scotland where both grey and common seals can be seen together and is internationally recognised for its special habitats and the rich variety of plants, birds, insects and other animals they support.
